Many Torontonians take off for the August long weekend, renting cottages in Haliburton or Muskoka cottage country or visiting Stratford or Niagara-on-the-Lake. The Blue Jays have three home games during the August long weekend. The Jays play the Texas Rangers at the Rogers Centre on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 7 p.m., Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 1 p.m. Buy Toronto Blue Jays tickets online here.

Concerts at Molson Amphitheatre

Death Cab for Cutie plays the Molson Amphitheatre  at Ontario Place on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 8 p.m. while Drake hits the same stage on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 7:30 p.m.

TD Irie Music Festival

A free festival celebrating reggae, soul, salsa and African music, African dance performance, the spoken word, visual arts and movies, the Irie Music Festival features headliners Ray Robinson at Yonge-Dundas Square on Saturday, July 30, 2011; Bushman at the Queen’s Park stage on Sunday, July 31, 2011; and the Fab 5 at Queen’s Park on Monday, August 1, 2011.

Caribana Parade 2011

The Caribana Parade, part of the renamed Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival Toronto, runs along Lake Shore Blvd. W. from Exhibition Place for a 3.5 kilometre route on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10 a.m. Free admission although there is a $15 General Admission, which will allow guests to enter the Orange Zone, while a $50 admission will guarantee access to the VIP sections.

Caribana Parties 2011

  1. Sound Academy at Polson Pier, 11 Polson Street, Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10 p.m. Hosted by Nas, Pooch Hall and Director X, music video director for Jay-Z, Rihanna, John Mayer, Kanye West and Nelly Furtado. Tickets for the Sound Academy Caribana party are $40 and $50 closer to the event.
  2. Devil’s Martini Caribana Party, 473 Adelaide St. W., Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 10 p.m. Featuring Fabolous with Rosci, Hosea Chancez and Hot 97’s DJ Envy. Tickets for Devil’s Martini Caribana party are $40 and $50 closer to the event.
  3. Atlantis Caribana Party at Atlantis Pavillion, Ontario Place on Saturday, July 30, 2011. With DJ Jason Chambers, Boogeymen, DJ Spoonz, Dr. Jay de Soca Prince, D’Bandit and others. Tickets available at Play De Record, 357 Yonge St., 416-586-0380.

Mirvish Theatre

Billy Elliot The Musical plays the Canon Theatre at 244 Victoria Street on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 7: 30 p.m.; Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 1:30 p.m.

Carrie Fisher’s autobiographical one-woman show, Wishful Drinking, has performances at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, 260 King St. W., during the August long weekend on Friday, July 29, 2011 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, July 31, 2011 at 2 p.m.
