If you think that Prince is a funk-pop lightweight, then you may want to have your ears opened to the enormous talent that is Prince during his “Welcome 2 Canada” Tour at the Air Canada Centre on Nov. 25 and 26, 2011 at 8 p.m. One of the most surprising performers in concert, Prince reveals his rock influences, incorporating many dazzling riffs into his otherwise funk-styled tunes while demonstrating his jaw-dropping dexterity on electric guitar and piano. And he is a consummate showman. Prince racked up several top 10 hits by recording his own songs “Little Red Corvette,” “1999,” “Purple Rain,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” and “Kiss.” But he has also penned numerous tunes that have been recorded by others including Sinead O’Connor (“Nothing Compares 2 U”), Chaka Khan (“I Feel For You”), Alicia Keys (“How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore”) and The Bangles (“Manic Monday”). Guitar aficionados will attest to Prince’s talent as an extremely gifted guitarist, no matter the genre. Witness his 2004 Grammy Awards’ virtuoso electric guitar solo on George Harrison’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” If you’ve never seen Prince live, this concert is one for the books. Tickets for Prince at the ACC are $268.25, $117.75 and $68.25 and go on sale at Ticketmaster on Fri., Nov. 4, 2011 at 10 a.m.
