Kensington Market will celebrate winter solstice 2011 with a parade starting at the corner of Oxford Street and Augusta Avenue on Wed., Dec. 21, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year when the sun’s maximum elevation in the sky is at its lowest. The winter solstice is also symbolic of rebirth and is followed by holidays and celebrations by many cultures. In order to prepare for the Kensington Market Winter Solstice parade, a pay-what-you-can lantern making workshop will take place on Sat., Dec. 17, 2011 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Steelworkers Hall at 25 Cecil Street (east of Spadina, south of College). All materials are included.
