Tired of sifting through all the daily deals from group discount websites every morning, but afraid you’re going to miss the best deal on Toronto restaurants or your Collingwood ski trip if you don’t read each one? A new online platform launched in January, GettingGives.com, will not only forward you all of the day’s deals in one e-mail customized to your preferences, but will also donate 50% of its profits to the charity of your choice.

GettingGives is the brainchild of Toronto husband-and-wife team Matt and Sydney Miller, two Business Administration graduates who learned the ropes by running their own consulting firms while at university, then refined their management and marketing skills working for technology firms before deciding to launch their own site. As CEO Matt Miller explains, the couple’s motivation was to provide an “innovative way to raise funds for charity…and create a scenario where there is no reason not to buy and give back through GettingGives.”

The way it works is GettingGives delivers an email to your inbox that is an aggregate of all the daily deals for a product or service you have specified, for example, spa services in Toronto, but directs you to the the deal provider’s website when it’s time to purchase. In return, GettingGives receives a 10% affiliate fee from the deal providers that include Groupon, TeamBuy and DealFind while the deal provider retains the responsibility of servicing the transaction. So if you have any trouble with, for example, your TeamBuy purchase, you deal directly with TeamBuy. GettingGives then donates 50% of their affiliate fee to the charity that you specify.

Purchasing your daily deal through GettingGives costs no more than if you were to purchase your deal directly from the deal provider and your favourite charity benefits at the same time. For example, if you buy a deal through GettingGives for a $20 meal at a Toronto restaurant, GettingGives will donate $1 (50% of its $2 profit) to the charity of your choice.

GettingGives currently has partnerships with 22 charities including Save the Children, Thirst Relief International, Plan Canada, To Write Love on Her Arms and Soles 4 Souls; however, they will happily donate to your charity even if it is not one of their current charity partners. With no additional costs to fork out and your favourite charity benefiting from your purchase, buying your discount deals through GettingGives appears to be a no-brainer.
