Sonja Smits Hosts March 8 Women’s Day Dinner for Sistering

Some of Toronto’s best female chefs will lend their culinary talents to produce Kitchen Sisters 2012: An Exquisite Dining Experience on Thursday, March 8, 2012, International Women’s Day, at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen in Liberty Village. Dinner host, actor Sonja  Smits, will be joined by international jazz and blues singer, Shakura S’Aida, who will be performing throughout the evening. Chefs Anne Yarymovich of the Art Gallery of Ontario’s Frank, Joanne Yolles of George Brown College (and formerly of Scaramouche and Pangaea), Donna Dooher of Mildred’s Temple Kitchen, Suzanne Baby of Hart House’s Gallery Grill, Deborah Read of George Brown College, Colen Quinn of Pangaea, Christine Bibb of Christine Bibb Catering and Trisha Beard, Maureen Watson and Carol Gray of Sistering will pool their efforts to present a mouth-watering four-course meal.

The evening will open with canapés served during a 6 p.m. reception, followed by a gourmet dinner at a communal table at 7 p.m. that will feature:

  • Baby beet salad and hazelnut with cauliflower mousseline and miso toast
  • Shrimp, scallops and lobster in tomato fennel broth
  • Beef Tenderloin with roasted carrots, French beans and onion confit
  • Plum almond crumble with port reduction and vanilla orange ice cream

Sistering supports homeless, low-income and under-housed women in Toronto by providing services related to housing assistance, self-employment, advocacy and counseling.

Tickets are $500 (receive a $350 tax receipt) or $1,000 for the VIP Chef’s Table (receive a $700 tax receipt) and are available by calling Sistering at 416-926-9762 x 243.
