About ten minutes north of Sandbanks Provincial Park sits the community of Bloomfield, a picture-perfect town of century homes, gift stores and conscientious restaurants serving Prince Edward County’s harvest. If you have the good fortune of slipping off to Bloomfield and surroundings, try and make a stop at the Hillsdale House B&B located on Main Street. Hosts Diane and Bruce make every effort to ensure that your stay is comfortable and pleasing to the eye and palate.

Breakfast in Hillsdale House’s regal dining room may begin with natural yogourt mixed with raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, sliced almonds and cinnamon.

Other selections may include frittata with roasted green onion, red onion and red and bell peppers. Diane, who thoughtfully chooses and cooks breakfast selections, picks many of the table’s ingredients from her backyard garden including some prized yellow Heirloom tomatoes, which were exceptionally sweet.

If you’re lucky, Diane will whip you up a Dutch Baby, a pancake-like dish topped with freshly-picked McIntosh apples lightly baked and sprinkled with cinnamon. Flowers from Diane’s garden lend a colourful touch to this breakfast of champions.

After a sumptuous breakfast, you may feel like retiring to the guest porch to read before heading into Picton, touring Prince Edward County’s famous wineries or visiting the beaches at Sandbanks Provincial Park.

After a full day’s activities exploring Prince Edward County, you’ll appreciate the refined taste on display in the bedrooms.

Fresh flowers in the bedroom and the ensuite add welcoming touches while complimentary chocolate truffles from the Copper Kettle Chocolate Company in Picton awaiting in our room reflect our hosts’ attention to detail and indulgence.

Not ready for bed yet? Head downstairs to the comfy guests’ living room where you can peruse a wonderful selection of books on local history.

Both Diane and Bruce have mastered the fine art of inobtrusive yet attentive hosting so you’ll feel completely at ease during your stay at Hillsdale House B&B, leaving rejuvenated and refreshed.
