The Habitat Toronto Campus Coalition of Habitat for Humanity Toronto will be coordinating the Haunted Home-a-Thon, a Halloween-themed event to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing in Toronto and to fundraise for Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Beginning on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 7 a.m., students from Ryerson University, the University of Toronto, York University, George Brown College and OCAD University will camp out in plywood cabins at Ryerson University during the organization’s fourth Home-a-Thon.
Students will build 10′ x 10′ wooden cabins to simulate below-standard housing conditions in Toronto.
Entertaining the students will be local live bands including Michelle Wydra, Seven Symphonies, Steve Lewin, WHY Blue and Alex Pollard Dance Crew. A screening of a horror movie will take place during the evening.
There is a registration fee of $10 for each student and prizes will be awarded for the top three fundraisers including an Apple iPad. Students who participate in the event need to fundraise.
The public is invited to visit the shanty town to enjoy live music and learn more about the need for affordable housing in Toronto.
