If you have nothing planned for January 1, 2014, you might want to consider joining the Toronto Polar Bear Club for their annual dip at Sunnyside Park. There is probably no faster way to eliminate your New Year’s Eve hangover than jumping into the frigid waters of Lake Ontario.

You’ll need to collect a minimum of $30 in donations in order to participate. All of the proceeds from the dip will go to Habitat for Humanity Toronto. Arrive at Sunnyside Park at 10:30 a.m. to register and participate in pre-dip events. The polar bear dip begins at 12 noon. Wear warm clothes and bring towels and blankets as there are no change facilities on site. Wear water socks or shoes, not flip flops since they tend to fall off.

The Toronto Polar Bear Dip has raised more than $168,000 since 2005, all of which has been donated to Habitat for Humanity Toronto to build homes for families wanting to escape sub-standard poverty housing.

Participating in the Polar Bear Dip is also an excellent way to begin 2014 by committing one act to benefit the greater good.
