If you haven’t been to the Loblaws store at Maple Leaf Gardens, here’s another reason to. The store has created special dishes in conjunction with several Toronto summer events including the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival, Pride Week and Taste of the Danforth.

On the weekend of August 9-11, you can enjoy Greek specialties such as chicken gyros, baked cod and Greek salad skewers in celebration of Taste of the Danforth. Loblaws will also be offering other gourmet dishes at their Canteen including Teriyaki Salmon, poutine and homemade lasagna.

The Teriyaki salmon is $6.95 and comes with Baby Bok Choi. I tasted the salmon, which was tender and flaky.

Loblaws’ poutine is a gourmet version, which is made with cheddar cheese instead of the traditional cheese curds. The portion, which is $4.95, is huge and the fries stay crispy in the gravy.

The lasagna served at the Cantine is $6.95 and worth every penny. You know the lasagna recipe that your Aunt Kathleen whips up for the annual family get-together? Loblaws’ version is just as good if not better.

Make sure to drop by the sushi bar, pizza oven where you can order made-to-order pizza, Ace Bakery, Tea Emporium and patisserie when you stop by the store. You’ll also find a fabulous cheese section housed in an oak cabinet. Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens also features an open kitchen with 14 in-house chefs.
