Men may not understand women’s obsession with handbags, but, for many women, their handbag is a stamp of their signature style. Yes, a handbag can be an object of pride, status and sometimes envy, but most importantly, it’s the home we choose for many of our most important objects, things we cannot live without such as our cell phone, debit and credit cards, driver’s licence, Metro pass, sunglasses, our lip gloss, mascara, nail file, perfume samples, sunscreen, tissues, car keys, Tide stick, emergency sewing kit, etc. If our handbag is too big, we may end up carrying around unnecessary stuff and if it’s too small, we can’t fit all our essentials in it! So choosing a handbag can be a big deal for us gals. Here are some of my favourite handbags for fall 2013:

Pippa Bag from Modalu London at Town Shoes, $275
Pippa Bag from Modalu London at Town Shoes, $275

Named after the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister after she was seen on numerous occasions carrying the bag, the Pippa bag is spacious without forfeiting style due to the tailored design. This classic handbag from Modalu London available exclusively at Town Shoes in Canada will keep you in style for years to come. Available in brown, burgundy, grey, turquoise, rose and white.

You have to love this handbag from Jeanne Lottie for its fun factor. The cherry red shade will provide some pop to neutral winter white, grey, black and navy outfits. Also comes in black.

Medium Stanthorpe Calf-Hair Shoulder Bag from Michael Kors, $498
Medium Stanthorpe Calf-Hair Shoulder Bag from Michael Kors, $498

Michael Kors‘s Stanthorpe Calf-Hair Shoulder Bag is a statement piece that will garner attention wherever you go. This handbag says you enjoy a walk on the wild side, but all in good taste. It’s definitely one of my favourite designer handbags for fall 2013. If you’re looking for a tamer version, this bag comes in black at a lower price of $398.

Evan Satchel in Mythic Blue from Banana Republic, $285

Banana Republic has some smart handbags for fall 2013 including this eye-popping, leather satchel in mythic blue with on trend removable tassels. Also available in garnet red and black.

Robinson Top Handle Satchel from Tory Burch, $550

I love this shade of green for fall in this neat, classy handbag from Tory Burch. It’s admittedly ladylike and prim, but with a modern twist.

This grey cross body handbag from Kate Spade comes in several colours including violet, garnet and black, but I like the grey version since you’ll be able to pair it with so many colours.

Madison Small Madeline East West Satchel in Black Twisted Leather from Coach, $458

This black handbag from Coach is super stylish due to the twisted leather design. It also comes in vermillion and tea rose.

Small Weston Pebbled Messenger Bag from Michael Kors, $228

Here’s a small messenger bag updated with tassels and chains in classic tan from Michael Kors to complete your English country tweed jacket and jeans look.

Mademoiselle Prince Handbag from Roots, $258
Mademoiselle Prince Handbag from Roots, $258

No, Roots doesn’t just produce hiking bags in brown and black; they have a new line of Roots handbags in Autumn Red that will rival any designer collection. The Mademoiselle Prince (shown above) is not only cute but large enough to fit your most important accessories. This shade of red is surprisingly versatile, going well with mustard, light and medium blues and greys, teal, orange, purple and black.

Well, I’m off to go handbag shopping. I’ll let you know which one I buy!
