Fall is here and it’s time for Casey House’s annual fundraiser, Art with Heart, presented by TD. A few years ago, I volunteered as a docent for Art with Heart at the Carlu. The experience was an eye-opener into the business side of art bringing together many sophisticated collectors and people who simply love art to marvel at the works and participate in the authentic art auction. I also learned about many existing and emerging artists whose works were donated to be sold at the auction. Many of these artists’ work have appeared in the Art Gallery of Ontario and other museums.
Whether you are a passionate collector of art or simply have an interest that desires to be fuelled, you may want to attend Art with Heart on October 8, 2013 at the Carlu. Tickets are $175 per person and include an open bar and a delicious selection of gourmet food, as well as the opportunity to bid on a wide variety of artwork in diverse materials with estimated values from $1,000 up to $18,000.
You’ll find work by contemporary artists including Robert Mapplethorpe, James Lahey, Fred Herzog, David Urban, Marcel Dzama, John Scott, Kent Monkman, Barbara Astman, Diana Thorneycroft, Toni Hafkenscheid and Angela Leach. Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky has donated a piece from his most recent project, WATER, launched this month following the TIFF premiere of WATERMARK.
The Art with Heart auction benefits Casey House, Toronto’s HIV/AIDS specialty hospital.
Two limited editions are available including one by Douglas Coupland entitled “I Like Texting,” priced at $2,200 and The June Callwood Artist’s Multiple by Jaime Angelopoulos, entitled “Will the Tail Off,” a miniature version of Angelopoulos’ most recent life size-sculpture.
Art with Heart takes place on Wednesday, October 8, 2013 at The Carlu, 444 Yonge Street, 7th Floor, Reception: 5:30 p.m., Auction: 7 p.m. Free public previews will be held at Waddington’s at 275 King St. E. from Oct. 3-6, 2013 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
