In an attempt to explore my new Leslieville neighbourhood, I met a friend at the Beach Hill Restaurant at 1917 Gerrard Street East, which is actually in the Upper Beach neighbourhood; however, the cafe is within a seven minute’s drive of my home.

We arrived at 10 a.m. on a Wednesday morning on this mostly residential section of Gerrard St. E. and found the cozy restaurant empty, which was a pleasant surprise for my friend and I since we were looking forward to a relaxing meal. (I suspect this restaurant is bustling on weekends.) This Upper Beach restaurant is really a breakfast and lunch place since it is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but they are licensed so you can enjoy a glass of wine with your salad or sandwich.

We were quickly greeted by Andrina, who gave us a few minutes to look over the menu, which features popular breakfast items such as eggs benedict, omelettes, French toast, breakfast sandwiches and soup. My friend ordered the regular Eggs Benny served with maple-smoked bacon on multi-grain toast with spinach salad and fruit salad ($11) and declared it a success, especially the silky, smooth Hollandaise sauce. You can also order variations on Eggs Benny including Jerk Chicken Benny, Pulled Pork Benny, Grilled Veggie Benny, Eggs Florentine Benny and Smoked Salmon Benny.

I chose the Design Your Own Omelette ($11), which allows you to choose up to five items for a tailored omelette. My omelette consisted of mushroom, spinach, tomato and Swiss cheese and was deftly prepared. I love the fresh tropical fruits and home fries that came with the omelette and are served with many of the dishes. In addition, the size portions, unlike at many other cafes, are just right, which means you won’t overeat.
If you’re in the Upper Beach area, definitely stop by the Beach Hill Restaurant. You’ll get extremely good value and lovely service to accompany your meal.

Thank you for your lovely review of our little place! So glad you had a wonderful meal!
Hi Tonya, Yes, I really enjoyed it and hope to be back soon! Lori
I am from a little town called Campbellford and I had to go to Gerrard Street E. for a translation on my passport. The lady told us of this little place for our lunch while we waited… WE LOVED IT. This little place is very clean, well decorated with a very nice and friendly hostess. I personally appreciated the fact that Rawle came personally to take our order and he didn’t even had to write it down.
The food has every single element to taste amazing! It was made with fresh ingredients, it looked super inviting and it tasted like heaven! This little place is truly a breath of fresh air in the middle of a city that is always so busy. I recommend it to anyone who is in the Upper Beach neighbourhood. Thanks for a great memory!
