It’s only mid-January and Torontonians have already faced a rough winter. But there’s something that will always take the edge off of winter: a hot cup of your favourite tea (and we’re hosting a contest; see below). If you would like to learn more about fine teas and tea culture, you may want to check out the Toronto Tea Festival, which is returning to the Toronto Reference Library, Bram and Bluma Appel Salon on February 1 and 2, 2014.
With your ticket, you will be able to sample hundreds of varieties of tea and learn about the finer elements of tea through talking to tea sommeliers and attending presentations made by tea experts including Raelene Gannon, Jeff Fuchs, Linda Gaylard, Michelle Pierce Hamilton, Austin Hodge, Kevin Gascoyne, Dan Johanis and Trevor Burnett. You will also learn about tea culture through the tea art exhibition, Japanese tea ceremony and musical performance. Don’t forget to check out items up for bid at the silent auction.
Single day tickets to the Toronto Tea Festival are $10 and weekend passes are $20 and can be purchased online.

My favourite tea is Assam!
My favorite tea is ti kwan yin (iron goddess) … mild flavor, beautiful color and just the right amount of caffeine to gently wake me up in the morning.
I’ve never head of that Tea, Sunita, but it sounds wonderful! Lori
My favourite tea is Chai tea!
My favourite tea, at the moment, is Tulsi Lavender herbal tea. Mind you, I love regular orange pekoe tea as well (I am a Salada tea die-hard fan!), but after twelve noon, I switch to caffeine free or herbal teas. I love to try new teas, and I saw the Stash Organic teas at a local health food store. The Lavender herbal tea smelled wonderful – couldn’t wait to get home to try it. It is a lovely, soothing tea!
Hi Sue, I’ve also seen the Stash Organic teas at the health food store. Will pick up the Tulsi Lavender tea next time as it sounds delicious! Cheers, Lori
What a cool contest! When my hubby I and first started dating, one of our first dates was Afternoon Tea. It was unplanned and spur of the moment & he fell in love with Afternoon Tea.
My favourite tea is Earl Grey (Murchies, if you can get your hands on it), and he prefers Fruity Roisbos teas.
Hi Colleen, That sounds like a lovely first date! I also enjoy the fruity Roiboos teas! Cheers, Lori
My favourite tea is Green tea!
My favourite tea is decaf orange pekoe.
My favourite tea is Lapsang souchong.
My favourite tea is shepherd’s purse. Just discovered its properties. May be considered an herbal infusion but I can’t have anything with caffeine in it.
Hi Cathy, That tea sounds interesting; I’ll have to try it. I also don’t drink tea with caffeine in it! Cheers, Lori
My favourite tea is traditional Orange Pekoe, straight up!
My favourite tea is…hard to say! It changes with my mood, but any tea cupboard I have has to have Earl Grey in it! I have a selection of greens, herbals/tisanes, blacks, and reds… but I do also love a really spicy flavourful masala chai (we use almond ‘milk’ and it’s delicious). I actually just had afternoon tea today and had a pu’erh cocoa-caramel. I’m digging the earthy coffee-esque flavours of pu’erh. I’m going to have more in my tea cupboard soon, I’m sure!
Hi Rekha, I’ve never tried pu’erh tea, but it’s been mentioned a few times here so I’ll have to try it! Cheers, Lori
