Torontonicity was invited to check out the Toronto Fall Home Show media preview on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014. The show runs from Sept. 18-21, 2014 at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place.

It was a wonderful opportunity to hear about all the new vendors, as well as the returning ones while touring the floor before it officially opened. With more than 300 vendors this year, you cannot help but become inspired, informed and enlightened by helpful advice, thousands of solutions, and news about the coolest new products. From design and renovation advice by Artemano to DIY projects inspired by Miss Mustard Seed and many other well-known design specialists, there is a lot to see at the Toronto Fall Home Show.

Eco-conscious living is becoming a passionate pursuit by many and is made more possible by many vendors at this year’s show and the creative ideas demonstrated at this year’s Habitat for Humanity GTA Ultimate Upcycle Challenge presented by Rust-Oleum. Designers were given the task of sourcing and repurposing a household item from one of the nine Habitat for Humanity ReStore locations on a budget of $100. The creations are on display at the show and can be voted for onsite or through the Fall Home Show Facebook page.

From upcycling to going green and design for small spaces. Bringing nature indoors through companies like Artemano, who specialize in creating an ambiance of comfort, contentment and well-being to Martin C. Vendryes, Woodworking specializing in solid wood one-of-a-kind and limited edition furniture using only traditional equipment and hand tools creating organic beauty.

Whether you are trying to create a minimalist lifestyle or live in a small space, Hiddenbed Factory can help. I was amazed at how they created a home office space that could be turned into a bedroom or a guest bed in seconds and without even having to move anything from your desk! Another company to check out for big ideas in small spaces is Wallbeds.

For the decorator in you or those with an upcycler spirit, there are plenty of ideas and products to get your creative juices flowing and your home looking fabulous! To keep your home looking and smelling wonderful, you could try Green Works for all your eco-friendly cleaning supplies and Perfect Sense Home, to keep it smelling great, while benefiting from the healthy essential oils and aromas.

Everything at the show is covered: home design, home décor, garden, cleaning supplies as well as health and beauty. But they even have your roof covered, literally with Smart Green Technologies Inc., which specializes in vegetative roofing, living walls, urban agriculture, rain gardens and remote monitoring. Although green roofs have been around for a few years now, Smart Green Technologies has developed them so that they are more accessible to the larger population by making them easier, cheaper, more robust and better performing.
I found the Toronto Fall Home Show to be an eye opener to many, many possibilities and ideas and would highly recommend it for anyone regardless of whether you are a home owner, condo owner, first time buyer or renter.
