David Pecaut Square in Toronto was humming with pink neon and lip glossed modelesque participants at the Rachel Sin runway show on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. My guest and I approached the big white tent and quickly by-passed the long line up for guests. Sin was showcasing her Fall/Winter 2014 and Spring/Summer 2015 collection for World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. The theme of the collection was influenced by The Urban Jetsetter, the woman who beautifully blends work and play.
Upon entry, we were enchanted by the person-sized birdcage swinging from the middle of the tent with the words PINK glowing from the chandeliers hanging inside. The media library with its comfy leather couches and faux fireplace in the centre featured publicity materials.
We moved on to get our complimentary Diet Coke (only Diet Coke – we’re dealing with models here!) Next, we had our photo taken in London-scape background TVs. On to Neostrata where the skin technicians would appraise your skin and share some skin care samples. We moved on to the Maybelline Selfie counter where one was permitted to try either a mascara or a lipstick then keep the makeup! I got a pretty “Siren in Scarlet” red shade that is perfect for autumn and winter. The centre bar featured Kim Crawford and Grey Goose vodka for purchase.
We rushed to get into line for the 7 p.m. show and were ushered to the back two rows. For work #RSWORK: The outfits are block styles with an 80s feel for ruffled blouses and structured suit jackets in strawberry and deep blue shades. For play #RSPLAY: Some favourites were the clingy black and white Halston-esque dresses. The models all had their hair teased and hairsprayed big. The clothes hung nicely on the models’ very thin figures, but may look more complimentary on curvy figures.
The washroom was located in the Metro Toronto building outside of the tent, so you would want to plan ahead.
My guest and I encountered a poutine chip truck with a gal asking us to post our photo to Instagram with #lechateauTFW (Le Chateau Toronto Fashion Week) to get a swag bag with a charming notepad, pencil (and sharpener), and a $25 Le Chateau gift certificate.
A fun night! Looking forward to the next one.
