Christmas Tree Lighting Party at King Edward Hotel
Torontonicity was invited to attend the Christmas Tree Lighting Party at the Omni King Edward Hotel in Toronto on November 26, 2014. The two-h0ur, afterwork event featured passed hors d’oeuvres, wine, appetizer and dessert tables, Christmas carollers and a visit from Santa himself. Guests were asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the CP24 CHUM Christmas Wish.

A carolling quartet entertained the crowd with holiday favourites.

King Edward Hotel chefs prepared tasty appetizers including these mini Shepherd’s pies:

The individual Thai shrimp cups featured exquisite, fresh jumbo shrimp in a mango salad.

The Mushroom and Goat Cheese crostini was another outstanding appetizer. The chewy mushroom and goat cheese topping sat on a light and flaky bread base.

I did not try the ham with macaroni and cheese, but my guest that evening told me that this hors d’oeuvre was also delicious. The ham was particularly fresh and tasty and provided a good balance of flavours for the mac and cheese topping.

These festive Chocolate Cranberry Squares featured rich chocolate without being too sweet.

Mini plum puddings were available for those who enjoy traditional Christmas desserts.

Meteorologist Bill Coulter of CP24 Breakfast said a few words to the holiday crowd. Check out a short video of guests enjoying the King Edward Hotel Christmas tree lighting party.

Santa showed up to share holiday cheers.

By the way, the Omni King Edward Hotel is featuring a Nutcracker Tea ($42 per person) in their lobby until December 31, 2014 (excluding Mondays and Tuesdays). The event is an absolutely divine experience as you enjoy tea, sandwiches, scones, Devonshire cream and desserts sitting beside the majestic Christmas tree.
