Jesus Christ Superstar Opens at Hart House Theatre

Hart House Theatre is resuming their 2014/15 season with a production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which opened Friday, January 16, 2015 at their University of Toronto location. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and book and lyrics by Tim Rice, the rock opera was first performed on Broadway in 1971.

Hart House Theatre’s production is directed by Luke Brown with musical direction by Anthony Bastianon. The story chronicles the last week of Jesus’s life and the conflict between Jesus, Judas and Iscariot.

The rock opera features well known songs, “I Don’t Know How To Love Him,” made famous by Yvonne Elliman and “Superstar.”

Hart House Theatre is located at 7 Hart House Circle ( Hoskin Avenue and Queens Park Circle West). Performances of Jesus Christ Superstar take place on Jan. 16, 17, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, and 30, 2015 at 8 p.m. and Sat., Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Run time is 2 hours and 10 minutes with an intermission. Tickets are Adults, $28, Seniors $17 and Students $15 and can be purchased at the UofTtix Box Office, 416-978-8849.

  1. “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” is a beautiful song. I think the only Andrew Lloyd Webber musical I’ve seen was Phantom of the Opera.
