National Cupcake Day Raises Funds for SPCAs and Humane Societies
Are you an animal lover? Does your heart go out to the animals who have been rescued and are being cared for by Humane Societies and Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)? National Cupcake Day on February 29, 2016 is a day to raise funds for these animal welfare agencies across Canada.

Whether you are an expert cupcake baker or expert cupcake shopper, it’s easy to participate in National Cupcake Day. Register online and then bake (or purchase) your own cupcakes and then invite co-workers, friends and family to enjoy your cupcakes in exchange for a donation to your local SPCA or Humane Society.
Since 2013, supporters of National Cupcake Day have baked a total of 52,173 cupcakes, raising a total of $1.2 million.
This blog post is in memory of my brother’s dog, Zeffie, a mixed poodle terrier, who recently had to be put down. Zeffie came into our lives as a rescue from the Toronto Humane Society nine years ago. Zeffie’s first owner was abusive and as a result, Zeffie was a bit anxious when my brother’s family first got him. Zeffie eventually warmed up to everyone and loved being able to open the screen door by himself to go outside in the backyard. Although Zeffie became blind in the last three years of his life, that did not stop him from enjoying life and bringing joy to us.

Humane Societies and SPCAs perform life-saving services for our furry friends. Please consider participating in National Cupcake Day to support these charitable organizations.
What an awesome cause. I just love animals and would support this cause fully. Cupcakes are awesome.
This sounds like a really neat thing to do!
I am sorry about Zeffie’s loss. SPCA’s and other like organizations do amazing work; I wish more people supported them and also acquired their pets from them.
The first dog is too cute 🙂
Anything to support animals is an amazing cause!
