On the “Cresta” of a California Wave

Torontonicity was invited to the cresta toronto re-opening party on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Located on The Esplanade just around the corner from Barsa Taberna, the St. Lawrence Market area restaurant features an Italian menu with California influences.

We easily parked at the Green P, located at the foot of Market Street and made our way up to cresta. The entrance features the bar in front with a dramatic, circular wine tower. The hosts greeted us warmly and showed us around the re-furbished restaurant.

We tasted the delicious Thomas and George Estate Pinot Noir, which had distinct rhubarb flavours. My favourite was the Chardonnay, which featured a limey, citrus nose with the full body of an oaky California Chardonnay. Thomas and George Estate wines are available only at cresta toronto. The winery is located in the Russian River Valley on the north coast of California and, with a limited supply available, they ship only to four states and cresta toronto.

Executive Chef Tri Tran has designed cresta toronto’s food menu around their wine list. The Cresta brands are part of the Thomas and George Estate Winery in Sonoma County, California.

The Food

Funghi pizza – with truffle oil and shaved parmesan. This pizza was positively delicious.

Brussel sprouts – with a crispy, balsamic glaze. The sprouts were frizzled and drizzled with balsamic vinegar for a toasty flavour.

Steak – a tenderloin with roasted potatoes, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic and beef jus. This perfectly-cooked steak was enhanced by the acidity of the tomatoes and taste bud teasing garlic.

Scallop Crudo – with citrus, coriander and garlic chips. I didn’t get to taste these, but they looked fabulous.

The party was fun and vibrant with great music and wonderful light coming in through the generous windows.
