Are you binge-watching the Winter Olympics 2018 like I am? The snowy weather outside has meant many of us are hibernating indoors in front of the TV. It’s so easy to reach for unhealthy snacks while you are relaxing on the couch, but you don’t have to. SPOKES is a new air-puffed potato snack that is gluten-free, dairy-free, wheat-free, soy-free and made in a peanut-free facility. Developed by a Canadian mom, these also contain no preservatives, colours or artificial flavours.
I enjoy eating potato chips from time to time, but I worry about all of the added fat. That’s what I like about SPOKES Air-Puffed Potato Snacks. They are air puffed, which eliminates the calorie-ridden process of frying. As a result, SPOKES Air-Puffed Potato Snacks have only 40 calories per cup and 0.5 g of fat per cup! Compare that to approximately 180 calories per cup and 12 g of fat per cup of your favourite potato chip brand and you may want to switch to SPOKES.
If you think SPOKES Air-Puffed Potato Snacks are lacking in flavour, you couldn’t be more wrong. These are some tasty little morsels. They are light and airy, but still crispy. SPOKES comes in nine flavours. Some of my favourites are Mango Habanero, Barbecue and Dill Pickle. They also come in Sea Salt, Simply Bare, Sea Salt & Vinegar, Sea Salted Caramel, Salt & Pepper and Fiesta Salsa.
Sodium content is one feature I especially look at when buying food and SPOKES Air-Puffed Potato Snacks are fairly low in sodium, although they do vary according to flavour. For example, the Simply Bare flavour has 55 mg of sodium per cup, which is quite low while the Sea Salt flavour has 170 mg of sodium per cup, which is in the medium range. The Barbecue, Mango Habanero and Fiesta Salsa flavours all have 85 mg of sodium per cup, which is still in the low range of sodium for snacks.
You can purchase SPOKES in Toronto and the GTA at The Big Carrot, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Marchello’s Gourmet and Natural Health Market.
