As a busy blogger and writer who works from home, I don’t always have a lot of time to visit a gym. A brisk walk around the block can do wonders to recharge my batteries, but it would also be great to have a home gym or fitness room to encourage me to work out at home more often. As it stands now, my makeshift home gym is in my bedroom, which thankfully is large. Perhaps you have a spare bedroom in your home or want to convert part of your basement into a home gym? You’ll want to create a fitness room that is pleasing to the eye and motivates you to achieve your fitness goals. Design plays an essential role in the overall effect of a fitness room. Below are some of the most important tips for decorating a fitness room:

Declutter Your Space

A fitness room should be simply furnished with lots of room for fitness equipment, as well as floor space for mat exercises or yoga. Try to remove clutter such as storage boxes, clothing racks or other items you might store in a spare room as you want enough space to move. Plus, a sparsely-furnished room provides more free flowing chi, which will energize your workout.

Add a Digital Touch

Digital adaptations for fitness rooms such as crossfit software will allow you to track your fitness progress on a wide range of workout options. These will also create a professional atmosphere in your home fitness room that will make you feel like you are working out at a high end gym. However, be sure to invest in mindbody support as well to avoid any technical difficulties with crossfit software.

Calming Colours for Walls

Working out requires a lot of effort and motivation, which is why being surrounded by harsh colours will lead to a less than positive experience. You want calm, cool colours that are relaxing such as whites, grays, light blues, and light greens. Avoid reds and oranges which are known to boost your appetite…you’ll notice most fast food restaurants have branding using orange tones.

Let in the Light

Natural light is beneficial for exercising. In fact, the larger the windows, the better because natural light can actually enhance your workout. Make sure you also install blinds that you can use should the light become too bright.

Add a Green Touch to Your Home Gym

Working out in nature is ideal, but since that is not always an option, fitness rooms should be as close as possible to natural conditions. Adding a few plants to your home gym will suggest the openness of nature and establish an outdoorsy ambiance.

Choose Motivational Artwork

During a workout, you will definitely notice the artwork in your fitness room. Having something stimulating to look at will boost your energy level if you are doing any kind of aerobic activity. On the other hand, if your fitness room will be used for yoga, opt for artwork depicting nature or abstracts painted in pastel colours. Don’t overdo it with the artwork as you want to keep your fitness room as uncluttered as possible. Choose one or two defining art pieces, preferably in the cool tones of blue or green mentioned above, and make sure the pieces are compatible.

As you can see, the way you decorate your home gym can have a major effect on how you and your family will feel when working out there. These tips and tricks for decorating a fitness room will hopefully transform your home gym into a place where you are happy and motivated to work out.
