My Meatball Place just opened at the beginning of April at 617 King Street West, on the south-east corner of King and Bathurst. The meatball-focused fast-food spot comes courtesy of the My Roti Place team, and Torontonicity was invited to try some of their newest flavours. If you haven’t visited any of the My Roti Place spots, you can read about my recent visit here, but read on to see what’s delicious and worth trying at the new spot:

The My Meatball Place team wanted the same easy-to-navigate menu to be the focus of their newest location. New guests aren’t meant to feel overwhelmed by all the options; just pick your base, type of meatballs, sauce and you’re good to go!

We decided to start with something classic, so we went for the spaghetti and meatballs with marinara sauce – it was one of the first smells to smack us in the face when we walked in, so we followed our noses and were pleasantly surprised. The marinara sauce isn’t sweet and reminded me of home-made comfort food. The spaghetti itself wasn’t overcooked and had a great texture, but it was sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper, so it did have a bit of heat to it. Generous portions also mean this is going to be a filling lunch!

I was intrigued by some of the other sauce options, so we went for the chicken meatballs on rice with aji and bean sauce. Wow! This is the perfect flavour combination for those days when you’re craving warm spices and creaminess, with just a little heat to awaken your palette. The peppers and veggies sprinkled on top are also incredibly fresh, and have a crispness you wouldn’t normally expect from a fast-food spot. I can’t rave enough about this sauce!

I noticed a small menu off to the side that had a list of poutine flavours, including a vegan poutine option: veggie-based vegan “meatballs” covered in Thai coconut sauce over a plate of amazing crispy French fries. My two favourite components of this dish were the fries themselves, and the spicy Thai coconut sauce! The fries are crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside and come sprinkled with a signature spice mix that’s so fantastic, while the sauce itself is delicious and full of bold flavours. It is a bit spicier than you’d expect, so keep that in mind when ordering. I’m definitely getting this dish on my next visit!

One of my favourite items from the My Roti Place menu was their Honey Garlic cauliflower, and they’ve brought that sauce over to this new spot and drenched their chicken wings in it. They’ve decreased the sweetness and amped up the heat, so prepare yourself – it’s hot!

Another finger-food option for anyone who loves spice is the Elotes: corn on the cob, cooked in a milk and mint broth, then grilled and sprinkled with a secret dry rub spice mix. So delicious, and worth sharing with a friend as a side dish. You’ll be left licking the extra sauce off your fingers at the end of this one!

If you can’t pass by My Meatball Place during the day, don’t worry! The team is open ’til very late Friday and Saturday nights with a 3 a.m. closing time. If you’re partying on King West and looking for late night eats, I would recommend stopping by because any of the menu items will hit the spot. You could also stop by during the week and grab yourself something delicious when you don’t feel like cooking. Let us know of any favourite flavour combinations off their menu by commenting down below so we know what to try on our next visit! Enjoy!
