Centrale Bergham, the popular Montreal halal sandwich shop recently opened their first Toronto location at 482 Queen Street West, right near Spadina and Queen! Torontonicity was invited to the official launch held earlier this month and preview the space as well as some of their signature sandwiches.

If you’re not familiar with the shop, they’re known for filling subs, great value deal combos, as well as an extensive range of mayo-based sauces: Barbecue, American, Samurai, Maroccan, Biggie, Pepper and Algerian. For the opening day we made a point to sample every one of the sauces, and found the Algerian to be our favourite, as it’s sweet and tangy with a slight spice kick. Ingredients include hot chilli, tomatoes, caramelised onion, and egg.

Don’t just take our word for it, the Algerian sauce is worth it. You could also try each one for yourself, but make sure to grab some of their crispy fries for dipping!

Once we decided upon our sauce of choice, we chose our sandwiches and started with the Le Rouge, a Tandoori chicken kebab-style sub stuffed in a fluffy pita bread. The sandwich is big enough to share between two people, which is impressive considering it costs only $5.49 each! The sandwich comes completely stuffed with a generous serving of chicken, but if you’re sharing make it a combo and grab some of those fries.

The second sandwich we shared was the Vegeta: vegetarian patties, two hashbrowns, cheddar cheese slices (you can request the sandwich without the cheese), and fried onions, mushrooms, roasted peppers and tomatoes. Saying that this one is filling is a complete understatement! The included hashbrowns are enough to keep your system ready for a night out on the town, or the perfect way to end your evening out.

The Bergham sandwiches are filling already, but their combos come with the option of a full poutine instead of just crispy fries! You can choose from six different poutines including classic, Philly steak, Le Rouge, and Le Chef just to name a few. We went for the classic, but noticed that many guests were requesting the Chika: classic poutine topped with curry chicken!

Maybe the stuffed pita-subs aren’t for you, and your late night out meal of choice is a burger? Bergham has you covered there too! They have a selection of six burgers ready for guests who may want a filling meal, but not to share. They even have a burger topped with a full fried egg, called the Twist!

Guests at the opening had the option of having a professional portrait artist create a fun cartoon of themselves!

Next time you and your friends are out in Toronto and looking for a meal to share before you venture into the bar scene, make sure to put Bergham on your list of places to visit. Our recommendation would be to add it to your end of night visit though, as these meals are sure to help soak up all the delicious beverages you enjoy on a night out, and without breaking the bank! Make sure to stop by and check out the new kid on the block for yourself, but make sure to go when you’re hungry!
