Choose the right destination

The very first step to travel affordably in luxury is to pick the perfect destination. Some places are much more affordable to visit than others. For example, you can get cheaper food and drinks, accommodation, and experiences by doing a bit of research first. Some well known-affordable countries to visit include Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Northern Thailand, Indonesia, The Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Taiwan, India, Romania and even Greece if you avoid visiting during July or August. Take a look at these best places to travel on a budget and work from there. You’ll be surprised at what you find!

Check out short-term rentals and Airbnbs

Hotels and resorts are often the biggest expense when traveling, but hostels and cheaper options can often be a little dingy. Instead of giving up the luxuries of a wonderful room, try taking a look at short-term rentals and Airbnbs. You can have a whole apartment to yourself with all the amenities included. If that sounds intriguing to you, check out these short term rentals Mississauga to do some research about what’s available.

Eat out for lunch instead of dinner

Eating out is an essential part of traveling; however, there is a way to make it less expensive. Instead of waiting till dinner time to enjoy a nice restaurant, try and book for lunchtime. Often the meals are much more affordable and equally as delicious. Your restaurant lunch will also give you a boost of energy to continue enjoying the day’s activities.

Look at a neighboring town instead of a major city

While you might be tempted to stay straight in the heart of the city, a great way to save money on accommodation is to consider neighboring towns. You can still get great hotels for half the price, and public transportation should be able to take you almost anywhere you want to go.

Travel in the offseason

One of the simplest ways to save money and enjoy all the aspects of a luxurious vacation is to travel in the low season. Not only will your destination be less crowded, but the prices of most things are significantly reduced. Stay away from popular times like school holidays during Christmas and March break, and you’ll be good to go.

Choose attractions wisely

Lastly, when it comes to selecting attractions, you want to keep a few things in mind. While you might want to visit the most instagrammable places, they can often by the most expensive and crowded. Choose one or two “expensive” attractions, and then see what other free options are available. This way, you can keep on budget.

By following the advice noted above, you will be able to enjoy your next vacation without having to sacrifice the things you love. While it won’t be as cheap as other methods, it’s still going to save you a substantial amount of money. Good luck, and most importantly, have fun!

  1. I always eat the larger meal at lunch – you’re right that it’s less expensive – the older I get – I find that i can’t eat a large dinner and then try and go to sleep 3 hours later!
