I can’t believe it’s almost mid-May. Although we had a long winter in Toronto, it’s still a surprise to be able to step outside in shorts! Yayyy, the warm weather has finally arrived! I’m so excited about being able to really enjoy summer this year after being in partial lockdown for the past two years. Although I love being outdoors in the summer going for walks, swimming or gardening, I still watch Netflix and enjoy reading in my backyard. The Stranger on Netflix
I have been enjoying a lot of British TV series on Netflix lately so I was pleased to stumble upon The Stranger. The series begins with the appearance of a stranger who has some startling news for husband Adam Price about his wife Corinne Price. When Corinne learns that Adam has been told her secret, she disappears. This stranger ends up surprising several characters with shocking news as we find out that most of the characters have secrets they don’t want revealed – I guess we all have our secrets, right? The eight-episode series is an adaptation of the bestselling book by Harlan Coben. I was glued to this one!
I was at an event two weeks ago just as it was starting to get warmer and I realized that I really could use another summery dress for evenings like that. I’m trying to buy only what I need so I wanted to be careful about my purchase. I saw this Buffalo David Bitton Ruffled Tempest Botanical Print Dress and I immediately loved it. The style of the wrap dress is whimsical while the material features colours that I wear often. The dress was originally $129 but I got it on sale for $77.40 and received a further discount of 20% for signing up for the Buffalo David Bitton newsletter. With taxes and a shipping charge of $10.99, the dress came to $82.39. The dress is 100% modal and is very comfortable to wear. There is a small snap closure at the bust so that the material doesn’t drape and like many wrap dresses, it doesn’t fall open when you sit down. I think I’ll be able to take this dress right until the end of October by pairing it with a beige sweater and beige or tan booties!
With the warm weather finally here, I am spending more time in our backyard. Of course, an SPF 30 sunscreen is necessary, but Curu Skin After Sun Facial Oil is great for applying after being in the sun! This facial oil is made from Sicilian Prickly Pear Oil and Borage Oil, which are both known for reducing inflammation. I really like how lightweight this facial oil is and I love the fragrance! Curu Skin After Sun Facial Oil also contains Apricot Oil, which is rich in Vitamins C and E to nourish your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Grape Seed Oil, Rosehip Oil, Carrot Seed Oil and Raspberry Oil will help counter the effects of free radicals on your skin. Curu Skin After Sun Facial Oil is $114 and can be purchased online.
A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles
I finally got around to reading A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles because it was recommended by so many family members and friends and even Bill Gates whom I do not know lol. It is 1922, a year of tumultuous change in Russia and aristocrat Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to imprisonment by the Bolshevik government. Rostov must spend the rest of his days in an attic room at the Metropol, a grand hotel in St. Petersburg. While at the hotel, he befriends the hotel staff and meets a young girl who provides him a different perspective on life. Towles’s exquisite insight into human nature seeps forth in his beautiful writing.
