I was so excited when I received an invitation to sample the menu at IRENE, a new restaurant on Corus Quay near Sugar Beach in #Toronto .
It was a bit breezy when we visited so we opted to sit inside, but we still witnessed a spectacular view of Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands. I know the patio is going to be packed when the hot weather arrives!
We started with mocktails including the refreshing Strawberry Lemon Mojito, made with lemonade, muddled mint and strawberries.
My dining partner and I split the Korean Fried Chicken Lettuce Wraps. This appetizer consists of three good-sized pieces of chicken in a delectable batter, drizzled with an addictive mayo. The wraps were crunchy and delicious! This is a must order dish when you visit IRENE!
For entrees, I ordered the Seared Salmon while my dining partner ordered the AAA Steak Frites, which included a 10 oz. New York striploin. My salmon was prepared in a mild tomato sauce, which kept it moist; the serving of fish was a decent size and had a gorgeous crispy crust while my dining partner’s steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The accompanying house cut fries arrived hot and were crispy! Five stars for that!
The decor at IRENE features a very appealing modern room with deep chartreuse club chairs, navy blue circular booths for cozy get-togethers, modern pendant light fixtures and plenty of plants that will soak up the sun from the floor-to-ceiling windows. We were pleased that the background music was not blasting and we could have a decent conversation without shouting. IRENE is sure to become my favourite waterfront patio in Toronto!
