It’s hard to believe that Halloween is a week away! I found my Morticia costume so I think I’ll dress up in it when I’m giving out candy! I’m finding that fall is going by too quickly! This is my favourite time of year due to the gorgeous autumn foliage! I am so glad that I’ve had a chance to go on a few fall colour walks at Taylor Creek Trail but I’m not ready for winter just yet! Find out what I’m crushing on in October 2023:

Naturalizer Brent Tall Waterproof Boots

I just bought these Naturalizer Brent Tall Waterproof Boots from Hudson’s Bay and I’m obsessed! Last winter, I found I really needed a tall boot to wear with skirts and dresses, but I couldn’t find anything I liked in my size. What I love about these Brent Tall Waterproof Boots is the 2 1/4″ block heel – this lower heel will make these boots easier to wear in small amounts of snow and the block heel makes your foot feel more secure too! These boots are going to go so well with the off-white dress coat I just got!

BECKHAM on Netflix

We’ve been glued to the documentary series, BECKHAM (currently on Netflix), which follows the British footballer player’s rise from humble beginnings to global superstar. To be honest, I didn’t know much about him before watching the series other than the fact he is married to Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice of The Spice Girls!) The series includes insightful interviews with his wife Victoria Beckham, his parents, and players on Manchester United and reveals little tidbits about Beckham, including the fact that he obsessively cleans the kitchen before going to bed! Beckham was heavily encouraged to succeed at football from a very early age due to his father’s unrealized ambition of wanting to play for Manchester United. It’s easy to see why the famous couple has remained married for so long as they have an easy, charming chemistry.

Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier

I love when I can pick up a book, read a few pages and be instantly hooked! That was the case with Girl With a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier. This historical fiction novel focuses on the story of the girl behind the famous painting by Dutch Renaissance painter Johannes Vermeer. The writing is beautiful and uncluttered and demonstrates gorgeous imagery e.g. “her eyes were light blue as if she had caught the sky in them”. But it’s the protagonist, Griet, who kept me riveted to the story. Griet, the subject of the painting, is a fascinating blend of innocence, perceptiveness and boldness (she makes suggestions to Vermeer about the placement of objects in his painting!) The story also highlights the glaring lack of choices for both women and the lower class. At 233 pages, this was a quick but gripping read.

Dollarama Scarf

I was wandering around Dollarama looking for Halloween decorations when I ended up in the clothing accessories aisle. I saw these very cozy looking scarves and tried a few of them on. I absolutely loved them and you couldn’t beat the price! The scarves were $4 and $5 each! They are 100% acrylic (no, you won’t get wool for that price!), and are very warm. My new winter coat has an open neck so I really need to wear a warm scarf with it. I ended up buy three of these scarves: one in yellow, one in cream (pictured above) and one in taupe. I will alternate them with my new coat.
