LOCAL Public Eatery (LPE) Adelaide recently opened in the Financial District and I was excited to be invited for a media tasting to sample the menu. Local Public Eatery has two other locations: one in Liberty Village and one in Leaside, but this is the first location I have been to. Upon arriving, I immediately loved the sophisticated, casual vibe of this upscale sports bar.
As a diehard Leafs, I couldn’t help noticing game replays on the huge TVs located throughout the bar. Beer lovers will like the fact that there are 16 beer taps pouring local craft beer.

As someone who follows a low carb diet, as well as a no-added-sugar diet, I was very pleased to see there were several options on the menu that suited my eating regime. We ordered the following:

Beet Hummus – $15.50
Tempura Shrimp – $17
LPE Greens Salad – $14
Blackened Chicken Curry Bowl with Cauliflower Rice – $25.75
Fish & Chips – $17.25

The Beet Hummus was prepared with roasted red beets, chickpea hummus, feta and fresh mint. This dish is incredible for its smooth texture and robust flavour. An added bonus is the hummus is served with crispy tortilla chips that were piping hot!

Tempura Shrimp were very good, especially the accompanying spicy aioli and Yuzu soy and fresh chilies, which gave this appetizer plenty of heat. The batter could have been a bit lighter for my liking. There were at least eight medium-sized shrimp so it’s quite a filling appetizer!

LPE Greens Salad was made much more interesting by the addition of quinoa and smoked cheddar! The baby tomatoes and salad greens were very fresh. I really appreciated that the honey vinaigrette was served on the side so that I could add an alternative lemon-olive oil vinaigrette that our server, Christina, graciously provided to me.

Fish and chips featured sustainably sourced cod dipped in a delicious, crispy beer batter. The fish was tender and the chips were hot and crispy. The large piece of fish was quite filling. You can get two pieces of fish for an additional $6.25.

I ordered the Blackened Chicken Curry Bowl and upgraded the white rice to Cauliflower Rice. I loved this symphony of flavours! The coconut curry was satiny and rich while the blackened chicken was moist and spicy from the addition of fresno chilies. The snap peas were perfectly al dente. The portion of chicken was certainly adequate given that we had several appetizers beforehand, but not huge if you are ordering this bowl on its own.

Christina, our server, provided EXCEPTIONAL service! Thank you!

I can’t wait to return to LOCAL Public Eatery Adelaide, especially in the summer to enjoy their west-facing patio. If you are planning a celebration, the second floor area overlooking the main floor can be booked for private parties.
