Spring is finally here although you wouldn’t know it by looking out the window. In Toronto, spring arrived hand-in-hand with blustery winds and snow flurries! I guess we can’t complain since we really didn’t experience winter weather this year. In any case, I have been focused on indoor activities and in particular, improving my health. Last month, I had a physical with my doctor whom I hadn’t seen in 14 years! [Note: I feel great and don’t have any physical complaints!] Of course, she made several referrals for long overdue blood tests, stool samples, a mammogram and I had to have a Pap smear and Tetnus shot. Receiving my blood test results showed me that my cholesterol was high so I decided to reduce my weekly egg intake to about five eggs a week instead of the 10 eggs I was having. Other than that, everything checked out okay. Continue reading to find out what I’m crushing on in March 2024.

Natural Factors Calcium & Magnesium Citrate with D3

Natural Factors Calcium & Magnesium Citrate with D3

My doctor informed me that I need to have 1200 mg. of calcium and 1,000 IU of Vitamin D every day as these vitamins and supplements are good for bone health. I immediately went to Healthy Planet and bought Natural Factors Calcium & Magnesium Citrate with D3. I remember my naturopath telling me a few years ago that Natural Factors was a good vitamin brand because it does not contain a lot of filler.

Since I’ve been taking this calcium and magnesium supplement, I have been sleeping much better. Instead of waking up twice (or more!) at night, I wake up only once. I also experience a deeper sleep. I have also found that taking the calcium and magnesium supplement helps my muscles repair from my gym workouts and my muscles don’t ache as much. So it’s a win-win situation all around! By the way, I am not a brand ambassador for Natural Factors!

My doctor also advised me that although my weekly gym workouts were good, I really should try to exercise a few more times a week. When the weather gets a bit warmer, I am going to start taking brisk walks and going running at an outdoor running track. I’m also going to try and ramp up my gym visits to twice a week. I have really been in a health and fitness vibe this past month and on that note, I decided I needed a new pair of leggings since I have only one pair. I saw these Golden Butter New Cheeky Flare Hi-Rise Leggings at Aritzia and loved their smooth texture. I also love the colour – Turner Taupe! – and the flared leg! These leggings will be easy to wear with white or black workout tees or jackets! By the way, they retail for $78 and also come in Black, Haze Grey and Coal Grey.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab is this month’s read for my library book club. It’s a long read at over 440 pages, but it really pulls you in. Addie was born in 1637 France and, as a result of making a deal with Luc, the God of Shadows, she lives forever. The only caveat is everyone forgets her after meeting her, which results in her not being able to create long-lasting relationships. Addie’s lives take her to London, New York City, Berlin, and other countries, and she becomes the muse of famous artists. She witnesses remarkable periods in time such as the industrial revolution, WW1 and WW11, the discovery of the automobile, telephone, motion pictures, and later computers. Luc pops into her life periodically to check on her state of mind. Part of the deal is when she gets tired of living, she will give up her soul to Luc. This book reminds me a bit of Forrest Gump since he was at the scene of many major events, yet it also reminds me of The Twilight Saga since Addie and Luc are not human.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab is published by Tom Doherty Associates. ISBN 978-0-7653-8756-1

Miss Scarlet and The Duke

We’ve been watching this British crime drama series on CBC Gem for the past month and really enjoy it. I have to confess: I love TV series or movies that take place in the 19th or early 20th century. The cobblestone roads, Victorian architecture, elegant clothes and old customs and traditions fascinate me! Miss Scarlet and The Duke, which takes place in London around the 1880s (they mention Darwin’s death) focuses on Eliza Scarlet, a “lady private detective” who is carrying on the family business after her father dies in order to stave off poverty. Her childhood friend, William Wellington, happens to be a detective inspector with Scotland Yard. Eliza and William butt heads – they are like oil and water! -when they cross each other’s paths during murder investigations. There is no denying their strong chemistry and that’s what makes this series so much fun! There are currently four seasons, each with six episodes and the series has been renewed for a fifth season.

SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I love SkinCeuticals skincare products because they are made with high quality ingredients. SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 is one of my favourite SkinCeuticals products. The texture of this anti-aging restorative cream is so satiny on my skin that applying it is a luxurious ritual that I look forward to every day. The reason this anti-aging cream is so effective is it contains the lipid ratio of 2% pure ceramides, 4% natural cholesterol and 2% fatty acids – all of these ingredients have been shown to improve the signs of aging. I apply Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 in the morning after using SkinCeuticals Vitamin C serum, Serum 10. Purchase Triple Lipid Restore 2:4:2 online at SkinCeuticals for $179.
