April is here and that means its Earth Month! What a great time to celebrate and take care of the Earth when birds are returning north and fragrant flowers are beginning to show their heads after a long winter! There is no better way to raise the collective consciousness about the need to protect our environment than by participating in Earth Month events! Like many cities, Toronto is hosting a number of Earth Month events, including on Earth Day: April 22, which will enable you to contribute to the health and well-being of our earth, as well as meet like-minded individuals! Earth Month Community Upcycling Workshop

Make a stylish drawstring bag with Create Studio on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at MEC Toronto. Create Studio is a team of artists and educators who provide workshops from sewing to pottery.

There are two workshop times: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. There are only 12 spots available per workshop; tickets are $10 per person ($11.98 including tax and fees). Register online at Eventbrite. MEC Toronto is located at 300 Queen Street West.

Earth Day at Downsview Park

Celebrate our planet and the environment on Sunday, April 28, 2024 by the Play Zone at Downsview Park at this free Toronto Earth Day event.

Bring your family and friends to enjoy hands-on activities, opportunities to learn and connect with education staff and vendors. Learn how to reduce your environmental footprint, and connect with like-minded individuals and organizations.

Tree Planting with Nikibii Dawadinna Giigwag (NDG)

Participate in a tree planting session led by Nikibii Dawadinna Giigwag. There will be two sessions:

Session 1: Sunday, April 28, 2024, 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Session 2: Sunday, April 28, 2024, 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Registration will be required to attend. You need only 1 ticket per family. Please arrive 10 minutes before the session. Information about planting location will be provided closer to the day. All equipment will be provided. No experience is necessary.

Trishaw rides offered by Cycling Without Age

Go on a trishaw ride around the Circuit Path, part of the “Cycling Without Age” program, which provides seniors and less able-bodied people with free rides on a specialized trishaw bike.

Registration will be required to attend. Only 18 sessions are available. You need only 1 ticket per couple.

Guided Nature Walks by Toronto Field Naturalists

Participate in a nature walk session led by Toronto Field Naturalists who will share information about invasive species, ethical birding and more.

Toronto Field Naturalists is a volunteer-run non-profit and a member of the province-wide Ontario Nature network of naturalist organizations. They connect people with nature in the Toronto area.

Registration will be required to attend. Two sessions available.

Earth Day Community Clean Up and Celebration – Cherry Beach

Join the Unbounded and Impact Kitchen Community for Earth Day’s Community Clean Up and Celebration on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cherry Beach.

Participants will clean up the area and then celebrate with an optional cold plunge following the clean up. Environmentalist and Waste Specialist Sofiya Chorniy will facilitate the cleanups and provide tips for waste reduction and diversion.

There will be prizes to be won!

9 a.m. to 9:10 a.m.- Arrival and Welcome
9:10 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. – Partner Up and Clean Beach in Community
9:45 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. – Optional Cold Dip in Community
9:55 a.m. to 10 a.m. – Community Closing Celebration and Photo Opportunity
10 a.m. – Fairwells for Folks Leaving Early
10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Waste Education Workshop by Sofiya
10 a.m. to 11 a.m. – Mix and Mingle

Cherry Beach is located at 1 Cherry St, Toronto. Park at the East Parking Lot at Cherry Beach.

Gardening for Birds & Butterflies at Toronto Botanical Garden

Learn how to attract beautiful birds and butterflies to your garden at this information session. Gardens that create habitat and food sources for birds, bees and butterflies provide many benefits. Not only are these small creatures entertaining to watch, but they also supply ecological services, such as increased volumes of vegetable and fruit crops, and pest control. Pick up tips to create a habitat-friendly garden.

Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The cost is Public $15, TBG Members $10 (plus applicable taxes and fees). Register online.

Earth Day at Evergreen Brick Works

Take the whole family to Evergreen Brick Works on Saturday, April 20, 2024 to participate in family-friendly workshops and activities that promote sustainability and care for the environment. Visitors can take part in workshops, immerse themselves in the nature surrounding the Brick Works, become part of a circular economy through the Mini Drop, Swap and Shop event, watch an educational film, join in on litter pick up and more.

City of Toronto Community Environment Days

The City of Toronto is hosing Community Environment Days at several Toronto parks a during April 2024. Community Environment Days will support the city’s long term waste management strategy by reducing the amount of reusable waste that goes to landfills.

On Saturday, April 20, 2024 and Sunday, April 21, 2024, everyone is encouraged to visit a local park, participating Toronto History Museum or other public space to help clean up litter.

Residents attending Community Environment Days can obtain free loose or bagged compost at select locations throughout the season.

  3. We celebrate Earth day in the US. But it is only one day. But I think everyone should do their part and make almost every day better for the Earth.

  4. I didn’t know there were so many events for earth day! We usually clean up the neighborhood and plant tree’s!!
