After a slow start to spring, many people will be anticipating the May long weekend in Toronto, which is, believe it or not, less than two weeks away! May 18-20, 2024. The Victoria Day weekend, which is May 18-20, 2024 will find many people heading up north to open their cottages, but just as many people will be staying in Toronto enjoying the unofficial start of summer. Here are several fun things to do May long weekend in Toronto 2024.

Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre

One of the most popular Toronto events on the May long weekend in 2024 is attending the Blue Jays game! Watch Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, Daulton Varsho and the rest of the Toronto Blue Jays play the Tampa Bay Rays and Chicago White Sox at Rogers Centre. Games against Tampa Bay Rays will be played on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 7:07 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 3:07 p.m. and Sunday, May 19, 2023 at 1:37 p.m. (Jr. Jays Sundays), and a game against the Chicago White Sox will be played on Monday, May 20, 2024 at 3:07 p.m. The first 15,000 fans on Friday, May 17, 2024 will receive a Chris Bassitt ‘Hound on the Mound’ Bobblehead giveaway. Friday, May 17, 2024 is also Country Night, which will feature line dancing and western activities and a pre-game performance by country music star Owen Riegling. The national anthem will be sung by Robyn Ottolini. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024 is Jr. Jays Sunday, which means kids 14 and under can run the bases after the game. On Monday, May 20, 2024, the first 15,000 fans will receive a Jordan Romano Blue Replica Jersey Giveaway. Tickets are $28, $66.50, $74.80, $85.60, $93.80, and $109. Fireworks at Ashbridges Bay Park

Fireworks will take place on Monday, May 20, 2024 beginning at 9:45 p.m. You’ll be able to see the fireworks anywhere along the beach from Ashbridges Bay Park to the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant. There is limited parking at Green P parking lots. Ashbridges Bay Park is also accessible by TTC.

Guided Tour of Toronto Botanical Garden and Edwards Gardens

Book a tour with volunteer guides at Toronto Botanical Garden and get tips for your own garden. The 90-minute tour includes a guided walk through the themed gardens and a stroll through Edwards Gardens. You’ll learn about the history of these gardens, as well as the variety of plants, pollinators, and ecological aspects.

Tours are offered from mid-May through to early October on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 10 a.m. There is a maximum of 15 participants per tour. Tours will take place rain or shine. Please note the terrain is uneven with steps and slopes.

Tours are available on the Victoria Day Weekend on Friday, May 17, 2024 and Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 10 a.m. Reserve online at Eventbrite Toronto. The cost is Adults $22.63; Seniors (65+)/Students $11.98; Child $6.66. Toronto Botanical Garden is located at 777 Lawrence Avenue East.

Bird Photography Walk at Rouge National Urban Park

Become a citizen scientist and join walk leader Gary for a leisurely bird photography walk in the Rouge on Saturday, May 18, 2024! It is recommended to download iNaturalist or a bird ID app for this hike. Binoculars are also recommended. The walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and lasts two hours. The distance is 2 km to 4.5 km and is easy due to flat surfaces.

Location: Tallgrass Trek

Meeting Point: 7277 14th Avenue, Markham – oTENTik (A-frame cabin)

JUNIOR Festival at Harbourfront Centre 2024

Take the kids to JUNIOR, the international children’s festival at Harbourfront Centre taking place on the May long weekend 2024. The festival offers free family programming, as well as internationally renowned ticketed performances. Enjoy cultural celebrations, workshops and performances and experience the limitless possibilities of movement and creativity, led by local and international artists. JUNIOR will take place at indoor and outdoor venues throughout Harbourfront Centre. Some of the events include:

  • Finding Home: A Salmon Story Upstream, a heartfelt story from one of Canada’s leading theatres for young audiences (Theatre Direct and Animacy Theatre Collective) about two best (salmon) friends from Lake Ontario who drift apart when one of them is ready to make the big “change” upstream. This is a ticketed event at Studio Theatre on May 18–20, 2024 at 1 p.m. All ages.
  • Robot Song from Australia’s Arena Theatre Company, a work full of joy and optimism that incorporates live animation, video, and fun animatronics, inspired by the true story of a parent with a child on the Autism spectrum. This is a ticketed event at Fleck Dance Theatre on May 18-20, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. Age 8+.
  • Experts Radio Lab from Scotland’s Alice Mary Cooper, a delightful drop-in, pop-up kids show where children are interviewed on anything they consider themselves an “expert” on.
  • Transhumancea fun, interactive activity for kids outdoors from Toronto’s own CORPUS. A mix of theatre and live performance, audiences can interact with the playful flock of fuzzy sheep and watch them live their best farm life.
  • BENCHED from Denmark’s Uppercut Dance Theatre where five dancers interact with and transform a set of oversized benches in a mesmerizing outdoor performance.
  • Bollywood Dance Demo (Ontario)
    Broken Dance Entertainment
    May 18, 2024 at 5:15pm, Stage in the Park
    Specializing in all forms of South Asian dance styles, Broken Dance Entertainment innovates through the fusion of Asian and Western choreography, inviting audiences to participate in this super-charged, super-fun dance party. The Bollywood-style dance company was a finalist on Canada’s Got Talent.
  • Afrique en Cirque (Quebec)
    Cirque Kalabanté
    May 18-19, 2024 at 2:15pm, May 20, 2024 at 1:30pm, Concert Stage
    A circus extravaganza inspired by daily life in Guinea, founded by multidisciplinary artist Yamoussa Bangoura and Cirque Kalabanté. Experience daring stunts, human pyramids, colourful costumes and traditional dance to the sounds of live Afrojazz and West African drumming.
  • Traditional hoop dancing from Toronto’s First Fire Dance
  • Storytime with drag stars Fay Slift and Fluffy Soufflé

Cirque du Soleil ECHO

Cirque du Soleil’s ECHO tells a story of connection, intention, and the bond between humans, animals and the world we share. Featuring acrobatics, tech, and artistry, ECHO highlights our interconnectedness and takes us on a journey of hope, youthful optimism and empathy.

Cirque du Soleil ECHO runs to August 4, 2024 at Humber Bay Shores at 2150 Lake Shore Blvd. W. The show is 125 minutes long including a 25-minute intermission. Performances on the May long weekend are on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Tickets are $88, $124.50, $146, $152.50, $160, $195, $228, $254 and $350 and can be purchased at online at Cirque du Soleil.
