The Toronto Blue Jays revealed their new City Connect uniforms at a sunset party at Lavelle on May 30, 2024 and Torontonicity was invited to attend.

The uniforms, called “Night Mode,” feature a dark navy background with and red and blue Toronto logo design that incorporates the city’s skyline, iconic CN Tower and Rogers Centre dome. For the first time since 2003, the Toronto Blue Jays jersey will have “Toronto” on the front of the jersey. It is also the first time since 2003, that a number will be featured on the front. On the inner neckline of the shirt is written “Diversity Our Strength,” reflecting the diversity of Toronto.

Christine DesJardine, Vice-President, Brand & Digital Marketing for the Toronto Blue Jays says the inspiration for the jersey’s colour combination is from “the hue of Lake Ontario when the skyline is reflecting on it.” DesJardine says that the development of the new jersey involved a two year process. The Blue Jays briefed Nike on what makes Toronto special. “We wanted to make sure that the players loved them so we showed them a prototype [of the jersey] to make sure they had positive reactions to it and would feel comfortable wearing it.”

We had a chance to ask several of the Toronto Blue Jays about their thoughts on the new uniforms. “I think it represents the city well with the blue, the skyline, reflecting down on the lake and the bright lights”, says third baseman Justin Turner.

Daulton Varsho speculated on the luck of the Night Mode City Connect shirt: “If we win with it, we’re going to wear it a lot more; if we don’t, we’re probably going to wear it only on the days we need to wear it.”

Delicious hors d’oeuvres were served including Spicy Dynamite Shrimp, Jerk Chicken Soft Shell Tacos, Chicken Karaage and Truffle Fries.

Lavelle boasts one of the most spectacular views of the CN Tower and city skyline from its 16th floor rooftop patio so it was a great choice of venue to coincide with the design of the City Connect jersey. The rooftop lounge features two swimming pools, cabanas, a dining room and 360-degree view of Toronto.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be wearing the new City Connect Night Mode jersey during their game at Rogers Centre on May 31, 2024 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. They will wear the jerseys on the following games: June 3, 5, 17, 19, 28, July 3, 19, 24, August 8, 21, 23, September 13, 23 and 25, 2024.

In addition to the new jersey, the Toronto Blue Jays also released the new City Connect cap, which reflects the same colour scheme as the jersey. The cap features the letter “T” to symbolize the Toronto flag at City Hall.

After the interviews with players, we got a chance to choose our own City Connect jersey and get it crested. I chose a Ladies Small Jersey and had Vladimir Guerrero’s name and number emblazoned on the back. We also received a City Connect cap to complete our outfit!

I love the new jerseys! The red, blue and dark navy colour scheme and graphic image of the Toronto skyline is very dramatic. The ladies jersey fits beautifully, with a velcro closure below the first button to ensure the shirt doesn’t gape.l

The City Connect Night Mode jersey and cap can be purchased at Jays Shop locations at Rogers Centre or online at MLB Shop.
