Is it really August? I must be in a time warp because it seems like only last week that I was making plans regarding how I would enjoy the summer! We have only four more weeks of summer left so I hope you have been checking things off your summer bucket list! I was feeling deprived that I hadn’t taken enough summer excursions (and so were some of my family members!) so we decided to rent a cottage up north at the last minute! I am someone who likes to plan vacations months in advance so this is a bit unsettling for me since we are going next week! I have to admit, though, that I am excited about our vacation! The Briar Club by Kate Quinn
If you enjoyed Kate Quinn’s The Rose Code, you’ll love The Briar Club. Quinn’s latest novel takes place in Washington D.C. in the 1950s during the red scare. The narrative focuses on the lives and secrets of a group of women who are tenants of a rooming house. Fliss is a young mother whose doctor-husband is serving in the Korean War. Nora is dating a gangster while Arlene works for HUAC (House Un-American Activities Committee). The mysterious Grace March creates a bond among the women by hosting Thursday evening potluck dinners in her room. When the story opens, we learn of a murder at Briarwood House and the nonlinear narrative progresses by jumping back and forth by a few years. The book is a real page-turner with great character development! Readers of the author will know that she has deftly researched the Washington era in the 50s to provide an authentic backdrop for her story. I highly recommend this one! ISBN No. 978-0-06-335787-7
Sunkiss Necklace in Gold from Foxy Originals
My sister gave me a gift certificate for Foxy Originals for my birthday in July and I chose the Sunkiss Necklace in Gold since I don’t have that many gold necklaces. I love the sun-shaped pendant since my astrological sign is Leo, which is ruled by the sun. I also like the chain, which is a smaller, paper-clip style. A Family Affair on Netflix
We usually watch dramas or thrillers on Netflix, but since I really like Nicole Kidman, we thought we’d give A Family Affair a try. This new rom-com also stars Zac Efron as self-absorbed celebrity Chris Cole who falls for his assistant Zara’s hot mother (Kidman). Zara is not impressed that her boss is pursuing her mom since she is aware of Chris’s superficial relationships with women. Efron is hilarious as the shallow Chris while Kidman is stunning and cool as usual. The superb acting elevates this movie into an enjoyable romp!

I have tried on Aritzia’s Denim Forum Farrah Hi-Rise Wide Jeans a few times now and love the way they fit! The wide leg jeans trend is now really popular and will look great with boots in the fall. I have enjoyed using CeraVe products and was pleased to receive their new Skin Renewing Retinol Serum to try!
