One thing I look forward to in the first week of September is the beginning of TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) and attending the Bask-It-Style TIFF Gifting Lounge. In its 14th year, Bask-It-Style returns to Fairmont Royal York Hotel. The event provides visiting celebrities during TIFF with a basket of products they may need while attending the film festival. Invited media get a chance to be treated like a star at the event while walking home with most of the products the celebrities receive.
Held on September 4, 2024 in the Fairmont Royal York’s Manitoba Room, Bask-It-Style hosted several brands and reps to demonstrate their exciting products and services.
SodaStream
The first booth we approached was SodaStream, where we got a chance to see the new ensō Sparkling Water Maker. This model is in stainless steel and is narrower than previous SodaStream Sparking Water Makers so it’s great for small counters! SodaStream staff were on hand to make refreshing mocktails with the SodaStream Art Sparkling Water Maker. Media got to take home a SodaStream Mixology Kit to create SodaStream mocktails and cocktails at home.
Wilmot Orchards
Our next stop was Wilmot Orchards where we met Courtney Stevens, Owner & CCO and daughter of the co-founders. We had a chance to sample some hors d’oeuvres made with their Blueberry Habanero Jelly from their Newcastle, Ontario blueberry farm. Courtney told us this vegan and gluten-free jelly was delicious on barbecued or fried chicken! It was insightful talking to these blueberry farmers about blueberry cultivation. Courtney advised that they hire a falconer for the four-week season to bring his predator birds including hawks and falcons to guard the high bush blueberries from pest birds, who, without the predator birds, would eat up to 25% of the crop!
Blistape
Do you get blisters from working out? You’ll be interested in learning about Blistape, which was the next stop at Bask-It-Style 2024. Blistape is made from spandex and nylon and is infused with Vitamin E to prevent your clothing or shoes from rubbing against or chafing your skin. It’s also great to wear when breaking in new shoes. Another plus is this company is Canadian-women owned!
Shark FlexStyle
When you’re attending TIFF events, your hair has to look great, right? I was excited about our next product at the event: Shark FlexStyle! This multi-styler is a hair dryer and styler all in one! The Shark Beauty team demonstrated how to achieve loose waves within seconds! We were advised that it’s best to use the Shark FlexStyle on hair that is 80% dry. There are attachable auto-wrap curlers for the left and right side of your hair. Take a small section of your hair, turn the Shark FlexStyle on and hold it near the Shark FlexStyle. The device will wrap your hair around the cylinder. Unlike curling irons, the Shark FlexStyle will not cause damage from heat to your hair. It’s also great for all types of hair. I can’t wait to use the Shark FlexStyle at home!
Peak Human
The final stop was Peak Human where we met Dr. Sanjeev Goel a physician with over 25 years’ experience. We learned about Dr. Goel’s revolutionary treatments including Emsculpt, an energy device to tone and contour, abs, buttocks and thighs. Peak Emsella is a device to strengthen pelvic muscles, especially effective for urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction or weakness in the pelvic floor.
I chose to try both the Emsculpt and Emsella treatments.
For the Emsella treatment, I sat on a chair while the Peak Human staff adjusted the machine so that the pulses, which are felt in the crotch area, were comfortable. Although they produced unusual sensations, they were not painful at all. My session was for 28 minutes and I was advised that it would be similar to me having done 11,000 kegel exercises!
I then tried the Emsculpt treatment, which uses applicator paddles secured with a belt placed over the abdomen. You can also have the belt placed on your thighs or hips if those are the areas you want to tone. The machine is turned on and again, adjusted to as high an intensity as feels comfortable. Again, the sensations were not painful; they just felt unusual! I had a 15 minute session, which, the staff informed me, was like doing 10,000 crunches! When I returned home, I was amazed to see that my ab muscles were better defined from having had just that one treatment. My abs were also stiff, just as if I had worked on the abs crunch machine at the gym! I was incredibly impressed by the end result!
