I was invited to a tasting The Shmooz, a popular Riverdale cafe on Pape Avenue and I brought my mom! Upon entering, we were enchanted by the cozy and warm ambiance of the cafe! We arrived just after 11:30 a.m. on a Monday and there were still a few tables available.

Andy, the owner, greeted us warmly and elaborated on the menu. He informed us that the croissants, which are baked in house daily, were sold out, but they do put aside croissants for the sandwiches…phew, as my mother was looking forward to a croissant sandwich! I was really impressed by the healthy menu options!

We ordered The Roast Salad and The Keener Salad. Both were very generous sizes and had super fresh ingredients full of antioxidants!

We then had the Carne Panini Sandwich (fire-grilled beef, horseradish aioli, gruyere cheese, caramelized onion and gravy) and the Pollo Panini Sandwich (fire-grilled chicken breast strips, guacamole, cilantro pesto, jalapeno aioli, double-smoked cheddar and spinach) which my mom requested on a croissant.

I loved that my carne panini sandwich was grilled. It made the bread so much tastier! The beef came alive with the addition of the horseradish aioli and the sharpness of the gruyere cheese.

My mother enjoyed the blend of ingredients in her Pollo Panini Sandwich. The flavour of the chicken was complemented by the cilantro pesto and jalapeno aioli and the addition of the cheddar made this sandwich substantial and satisfying!

We couldn’t resist the Fiddle Diddle Square, which was all kinds of chocolate coconut gooeyness!

We ended our fabulous meal with their aromatic Americano blend. I had the decaf while my mother had the regular blend.

I definitely recommend stopping by The Shmooz if you’re in the east end! It’s a charming gem in the hood!

Thank you so much for inviting me! We had a wonderful time!
