“Good morning, what would you like today?” is the welcome greeting I’ve been receiving for the past week from the chef at the omelette station at The Verandah in Antigua. Offering an outstanding breakfast that includes fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, waffles, bacon, fried potatoes, grilled tomatoes, assorted cheeses, fried potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed spinach, vegetable medley, grilled fish, chicken curry, croissants, toast, muffins, smoothies and more, the Seabreeze Restaurant was the starting point for our days at the Verandah.
The Verandah is located on the northeastern side of Antigua just north of the small town of Willikies. With glorious views of the Atlantic Ocean, it’s about a 30-minute drive from V.C. Bird International Airport. We stayed in a 700-square foot suite with two incredibly comfortable queen beds that overlooked the water, although the view of the ocean was a little obstructed by lush trees. The units are similar to a bungalow, attached to one other unit. We found the small fridge and sink very convenient to store snacks and make tea, and felt secure that there was a safe in our room. I loved the huge balcony where we sat and enjoyed coffee in the morning and early evenings and heard a variety of different birds such as the Carib Grackle and some very noisy tree frogs that sound like birds. Small touches such as the two umbrellas in our closet revealed the resort’s thoughtfulness. Our bathroom was extremely spacious with a huge walk-in shower and his and hers sinks, and was stocked with luxury skincare and hair products.
This all-inclusive resort features 10 restaurants and bars so you will never go hungry! We particularly loved The Beach Grill, with its spectacular view of Rasta Beach. It’s also right beside Rasta Beach Pool with its inviting in-water loungers and relaxing waterfall so you can swim, eat and then lounge on the beach without having to take more than 100 steps!
If you’re looking for a livelier beach, head over to the gorgeous white sand Lover’s Beach where you can use the complimentary kayaks and paddle boards to paddle in the warm waters of the bay. We enjoyed mocktails from The Pelican Bar right on the beach and then headed up the stairs to Sails and Tales for a seafood lunch. (Sails and Tales is open for dinner as well, but you have to make a reservation.)
Sitting on over 30 acres of hilly land, The Verandah offers a bit of a fitness challenge to navigate the property. Fortunately, staff are happy to give you a lift in the resort’s many golf carts and shuttle buses to and from your room to wherever you want to go.
The main pool is located in the center of the resort, near the Main Pool Bar, gift shop, guest services, full service spa, coffee shop, Seabreeze Restaurant, Wavy Wicket Pub, Portofino Restaurant, and Nicole’s Restaurant. The pool area is quite a lively meeting spot in the evenings! For those who want to maintain their workouts while on holiday (not me!), there is a fully-equipped gym also located in this central hub.
Nicole’s is the only restaurant that requires a fee of US$50 per person. We enjoyed an exquisite dinner there one evening that included French Onion Soup; Moules Mariniere; Shrimp and Scallop Skewers on a bed of pumpkin risotto; and lobster tails. The service and ambiance were superb.
The resort can set you up on several tours including the Pink Panther Safari, which takes you on a four hour tour of the island’s popular sights. I chose to take the Antigua Rainforest Zipline Tour, located about 35 minutes to the southwest in the heart of the rainforest. It was my first time ziplining so I did the minimum 6 zips and had a blast!
We had a fabulous time at The Verandah! The food was incredible, the beaches were gorgeous, but it was the warm and courteous customer service that elevated our stay to something exceptional.

This sounds absolutely amazing. The Verandah Resort & Spa looks like the kind of place where you can truly relax and just enjoy every moment. The breakfast alone had me sold, and those beach views and pool loungers sound like pure paradise.
