Christmas is the season of giving to family and friends, but it’s also important not to forget about animals who provide such comfort and support to humans! When you are deciding how much to give to charity during the holidays, you may want to donate to animal charities in Ontario that provide support and assistance to animals. All of the charities mentioned below are registered charities, which means you will receive an income tax receipt for your donation. Most if not all of these charities do not receive government assistance and rely on private donations to operate:

Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA)
The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society (OSPCA) is a registered charity that has been operating for over 150 years. The Society provides care, comfort and compassion to animals in need in communities across Ontario. The Society strives to keep pets and families together and does so through a variety of community support services, such as sheltering and adoptions, including emergency sheltering, feral cat management programs, animal transfers, food distribution, humane education, animal advocacy, and spay/neuter services.
The Ontario SPCA does not receive annual government funding and relies on donations to provide programs and services to help animals in need.

Ladybird Animal Sanctuary
Ladybird Animal Sanctuary is a registered animal rescue charity dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk cats, dogs, small animals, birds and reptiles. The organization saves animals from high-volume shelters where the animals would otherwise be euthanized. They do not have a physical location, but are instead, a network of volunteer foster homes. Animals are available for adoption for an adoption fee that ranges from $40-$350. This fee covers a health check by a veterinarian, and the animal is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, receives parasite treatment and is microchipped. You can also foster a pet from Ladybird Animal Sanctuary and the food, supplies and vet costs will be covered by the charity.
